Arm curls are the most basic of all exercises, and can be performed in either a standing or a sitting position. Generally, you should perform the seated variations of these exercises because when you’re standing, your nervous system is “distracted” because it’s maintaining balance. If, however, you sit down during this movement, it will allow full attention to the movement and your neural drive will be enhanced.
